How to build an agent for geneticists
You can assemble an agent that follows the sequencing cycle from start to finish: it receives the sample, follows the run, classifies the variants and prepares the report for review. These pieces and steps are the starting point, and you assemble them on natuleadan.app, on another platform that connects your equipment, or with open-source pieces, without being tied to a vendor.
The agent works for the genetics laboratory: the geneticist defines the panels, the thresholds and which variants are reported. Tools with restricted access, such as the biobank or the laboratory’s record, are verified on demand when needed and may be subject to other terms and conditions.
How the agent works
The agent receives the sequencer’s reads, aligns them and classifies them according to the configured panel. It decides whether to prepare the routine report or to escalate a relevant variant for interpretation. When the finding calls for it, it stops and waits for the geneticist’s confirmation before closing the report. Every step is recorded with time, sample and result, and the history makes it possible to reconstruct any case.
How to use the agent
With the equipment connected or manual upload enabled, your routine is to review the prepared reports, handle the escalated variants and adjust panels, thresholds and templates when the protocol changes. The agent never interprets a variant on its own and always escalates the relevant finding. You can pause a panel or remove a case from the program without losing its history.
Which tools you can connect
Connecting these tools is not just pasting an API: every connector goes through a normalization process so the data arrives in the same format, and the connection type (API, webhook or file), the security rules and the backup are defined. Your team’s infrastructure also comes in: who manages the credentials, where the connector runs and how it is monitored.
In genetics, the sequencer and the unified repository of biological data that the laboratory uses are connected, together with the PCR equipment and the sample record, in addition to the notice channels to the geneticist and the response team, which can be made of people or robots. When the case calls for it, the electrophoresis and biobank tools are added to read runs and preserve material, along with the periodic summaries that order the laboratory’s production.
